1st Step Education & Training was founded by two directors. Combined we have over 20 years’ experience in mainstream and alternative education settings.
Working as Behaviour Managers, Teachers, DSL’s, Learning Mentors, Family Liaison Officers and in residential youth work. We decided that we could offer a whole service with quality courses with holistic and academic outcomes for all learners.

Our approach to learning is centered mindset and preparation for learning. We fully engage our students on a learning journey that incorporates a mindset for learning, engagement in industry recognised qualifications, we then focus on perfecting the craft and developing pride in the work. This process allows students to truly begin to focus on their future and possible career, education or business aspirations. 

We organise industry experts to speak to our students and share their journey and experience in order to inspire our learners.

1st Step Education & Training offers unique and innovative courses. Barbering and Nail courses are taught in live salons, pupils have the opportunity to practice their skills on real clients. They are able to put their knowledge to the test, speak to clients and gain real industry in-sight into careers within their sector. The construction simulation suite is designed to allow pupils to fully immerse themselves in all different types of projects including wall papering, titling, laminating and much more.

Our pupils will leave their course with self-confidence and confidence in their knowledge and skill level whether it be barbering, nails or painting & decorating. We pride ourself in supporting young people to learn a skill in these trades.
